Welcome to our new blog series: Women Who Inspire Us. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be speaking to incredible women who inspire us – from women in business to those who make an impact in their communities or inspire those around them.

We thought the week of International Women’s Day was the perfect time to launch this celebration. If you know a woman who deserves to have the spotlight shone on them, please let us know by emailing una@chupi.com

In the first installment of our series, we spoke to the brilliant Nicole from
Clean Slate.

C L E A N  S L A T E founder Nicole Connolly has always had a love for fragrance, gorgeous products, design, and creativity, as well as an obsession with candles, so it was inevitable that she began making her own products that would blend these passions.

Who do you consider the most inspirational woman/women in your life?
I’m lucky to be surrounded by special women in my life. My mum is very wise and has raised three strong independent girls. She constantly inspires me by being such a selfless person and having a positive and no-nonsense attitude.

Who do you look up to in business?
There are so many incredible women in business that I look up to but closer to home I have such admiration for Chupi Sweetman! Seeing how she started out with a dream and determination and watching her grow her business from strength to strength all whilst staying humble and grounded is inspirational to me.

What does being a woman in business mean to you?
The reality of being a woman in business can often mean facing hurdles centered around family and that can seem overwhelming, but women also have amazing attributes that can enable us to deal with such challenges. Having positivity, patience, determination and resilience are female traits that are not to be underestimated.

If you could pass on one piece of advice to your younger self starting out in business, what would that be?
Just one?! Don’t stand in your own way, no one and nothing is perfect, it is ok to make mistakes, don’t dwell on negativity, you don’t have to know everything, you can learn as you go and above all please have more confidence.

One piece of jewelry you never leave the house without?
My engagement ring. It’s always a bit grubby as it never leaves my hand but I adore it just as much as the day I picked it. I also love that it has three round diamonds which I see as representing my three children!

What Advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?
Be passionate about what you do, be prepared to make big sacrifices to work towards achieving your dreams. Surround yourself with positive people and do not play the comparison game. There is no right or wrong way and your path doesn’t have to be the same as everyone else’s, you are not a sheep. You don’t have to be hard and serious in business. Being kind and fair to yourself and to others is far more rewarding.
