Next up on our Chupi Team What I Do series is our multi-talented digital designer and illustrator Lisa!

What is your role?

I am Digital Designer and Illustrator at Chupi Jewellery. My role encompasses many different areas including packaging design, hand lettering and Illustration, content creation, web design and creating the visual voice of the brand! There’s never a slow day in studio!

How did you get here?

I began working at Chupi as a graphic design intern way back in 2014 after graduating from NCAD with a degree in Visual Communications & Visual Culture. I had completed a number of internships in fashion and in web design before joining the team.

Outside of working at Chupi HQ, I continue to work on my own illustration at Lisa McHugo in my free time as I’m constantly trying to improve my skills.

What’s the best thing about working for Chupi?

There are so many reasons why I enjoy working here! Firstly, the Team. The group of people working here are really tight knit and we have a lot of fun!

Being a part of creating the voice of a brand is a great feeling and to be able to see our growth throughout the years has been amazing.

Then of course there is the matter of working everyday with gorgeous sparkly things! There’s always something new and we are all a bunch of magpies!

People or businesses or brands you admire?

I love following the work of fellow illustrators but my favourites would have to be the Irish Illustrators Fuchsia MacAree, Aoife Dooley, Oliver Jeffers.

Top tips for getting into your role?

  1. Have attention to detail – we spend a lot of our time making sure that everything that we put out into the world is 100% Chupi. If you want to work as a designer for a small company, you need to get to know the voice of the brand.
  2. Be multi-disciplined – it is so valuable to have a wide range of skills especially when working in a small business. We are a growing but small team so we all definitely pick up skills in areas outside of our day-to-day role.
