Since we started the Chupi Engagement Series earlier this year, we have heard the most wonderful stories of how a Chupi heirloom ring played a part in one of the most special moments in your life. Our next couple in the series is one that is so special to us here at Chupi. JoAnn, our brilliant Digital Marketing Specialist and her Fiancée Alex tell us about their gorgeous engagement in Wicklow on New Years Day.
Alex and I met through a friend in college. I was actually in my final year and didn’t have much time to start dating so we started seeing each other over the summer. He was patient right from the beginning!
It was New Year’s Day and Alex had suggested a hike in Glendalough, Wicklow. We love hiking so it the perfect way to start off the year together. Alex suggested we start hiking early – When I woke up he was already cooking breakfast and had put a pot of coffee on to bring with us. When we made it to the top of our hike, there is a bench perfectly placed overlooking the upper lake of Glendalough. Alex poured us some much deserved coffee and suggested we take a selfie in front of the view. After we took the selfie, I turned around and Alex was just gone from my eye line. I looked down and Alex was on one knee taking a small pink Chupi box out of his pocket. The moment I saw the Chupi box I knew what was happening. I was in such shock that I didn’t even hear him ask me the question so he asked me again and I said Yes.
Alex chose a You, Me & Magic Grey Diamond Ring flanked by two classic diamonds on a gold polished band. He chose the most gorgeous fiery grey diamond too! I knew my engagement ring was going to be Chupi but I didn’t know exactly which style. I knew aspects of my dream engagement ring (Alex knew too apparently!). I knew I wanted a grey diamond, I wanted three stones and I wanted a gold polished band.
We both feel like getting engaged is another stage in a relationship and we want to enjoy it.
Alex scheduled an appointment in store in early November as he knew the turnaround time was about 6 weeks for a bespoke ring. He had a consultation with our wonderful Diamond Experts in ATRIUM and explained the aspects he knew he wanted – He wanted a grey diamond, three stones and a gold polished band. The Diamond Experts in ATRIUM showed him all of our gorgeous grey diamonds – Frosted, fiery and stormy. Alex chose the most gorgeous fiery grey diamond and two classic diamonds on either side. Alex wasn’t sure whether to get a half carat or a carat grey diamond and when he asked his Mum for advice she said ‘No girl has ever complained about getting a diamond too big’ which is pretty solid advice (and she was right!).
Alex and I made up our own rules and decided he would wear an engagement ring too.
I didn’t know how I felt about the tradition before Alex proposed, but when my boyfriend (now fiancée) got down on one knee and asked me to marry him I knew it was perfectly us. I realised how much thought and excitement had gone into choosing the perfect piece for me and how difficult the whole experience must’ve been for him! My Chupi ring reminds me of how much Alex loves me and how committed we are to each other – He’s always got my back! Although, as soon as I started researching why women wear engagement rings and why men don’t wear engagement rings, I didn’t like what I found so Alex and I made up our own rules decided he would wear an engagement ring too. I got him the most gorgeous Chupi Driftwood Ring as his engagement ring with the date he proposed engraved on the inside. When we get married, Alex will get a wedding ring too!
Alex and I are still in an engagement bubble – Nearly a year later! We have really enjoyed celebrating our engagement with friends and family and we had a fabulous engagement party in August with our nearest and dearest. It was incredible to have both our families in the same place at the same time and have our friends from work, from school, from college all together. We both feel like getting engaged is another stage in a relationship and we want to enjoy it.
If a Chupi engagement ring or Chupi promise piece was a part of your engagement, we’d love to hear from you and feature you on The Chupi Blog. You can find out more details on this exciting series here.
