Ahead of our exciting pop-up in The River Lee Hotel this November, we sat down with Cork native & all round stylish lady Jo Linehan about her favourite places in the city. If you’re planning on coming to our gorgeous pop-up and want to make a weekend out of it, we have the most amazing tips for this special city.
Always a contentious issue amongst Corkonians – there’s so many cafes to choose from! The Farm Gate is my favourite, where an Americano is best enjoyed overlooking the English Market from high above in their gallery. They give complimentary coffee top-ups too.
Best place to brunch?
Good Day Café is my latest favourite. All the food here is sustainably and locally sourced and it’s beyond delicious – I can never decide what to order, it’s all too good.
Best place to shop?
Samui. The owner, Clodagh, is always ahead of the curve, stocking everyone from Alexander Wang to Aesop. Obsessed.
Best place for a drink?
The bar at the River Lee is incredible. Not only will you experience the best Old Fashioned of your life, the barmen will give you an education on his own recipes. Sublime.
Best parks or walks?
A stroll through the Hogwarts-esque UCC campus is always a treat, with its ancient trees and river, stopping off to peruse whatever is on show at the Glucksman Gallery.
Best place for a dance?
Brick Lane is so much fun. If you’re a 00s teen like myself you’ll absolutely love the old school r’n’b, pop and hip hop remixes here.
Any hidden gems?
There’s so much great music in Cork. Check out what’s on in St Luke’s, a former church, now a BYOB music venue. There’s always someone stellar playing here.
Top tip for visiting Cork?
Ask for recommendations. Cork people are proud of their city and have excellent taste. Whatever you need, whether it’s a dinner spot or you’re in a party mood, they’ll have an answer for you.
