Up next in our Chupi Gifting with The Experts series is the fabulous Laura Jordan of Style Savvy. Laura is a Personal Stylist, Fashion Presenter and Brand Consultant, so we couldn’t wait to chat to her and hear her top tips for gifting and being sustainable this festive season.

What is your favourite thing about Christmas?
Christmas is the one time of the year when my schedule goes out of the window…my favourite time is those in-between days when no-one quite knows what day it is! This slow, relaxed pace for a week or so, spent with family and friends, is something I look forward to all year.

Do you have any Christmas Rituals?
Yes, most definitely. My family are very close and we follow the same traditions every year. My brother is home and we have brunch together on Christmas Eve, usually somewhere local enough in Ranelagh or Dundrum, drinks in my Grandparents house and then Mass.

On Christmas morning, myself and my Dad walk our dog Alfie and then we have dinner with the rest of the family and relax for the evening. Myself, Mum and my Nana go to the Christmas sales on 27th December, I think it is the one day of the year when I will shop for myself and not for someone else!

What are your top tips for Gifting?
I always suggest gifting something that another person would love to buy, but could not justify. Small or large, this can be anything from a luxe hand cream to a super soft scarf or piece of jewellery. The only thing I would avoid is an item that people typically have only one of, like a purse or watch…unless you have received specific purchasing instructions! This adds pressure for the recipient to wear it whether they like to or not and no one is a winner in that case.

What are you hoping to see under the Christmas Tree?
I love accessories. They are my favourite thing to buy as I tend to wear simple enough neutral or block colours when I’m working. I have my eye on a YSL belt (belts are my weakness!) that I think would be really versatile. Time to drop some hints!

Do you have your eye on any Chupi pieces?
I wear a green stone Chupi ring every day and I always receive compliments on it. One of my best friends gave it to me for my 30th birthday and I have hardly taken it off since. I would love a blue three stone ring to add to my collection; I love large stones and believe that more is always more when it comes to rings! It’s my birthday just after New Year’s so I have some flexibility on gifting lists…I hope.

Will you be making any sustainable choices this Christmas?
I lecture in Sustainability as part of my Trend Forecasting courses in Dublin Institute of Design, so it is important for me to practise what I preach, as much as I can. I am a huge fan of pre-loved shopping online with Vestiaire Collective in Paris and I believe the best place for this in Dublin is Cobbler’s Wardrobe in Sandymount. I mix these with high street buys that I believe I will get lots of wear from. For this reason, I am the opposite of an impulse shopper. Sustainable purchasing is about effective cost-per-wear…whether that is Zara or Zadig. Sustainable manufacturing is another issue altogether and the need for transparency in brands informing their customers around this is so important.
